The Sioux Falls, South Dakota affordable housing study will be a local competition, including the greater Sioux Falls area. Entrants must be employed or a student in one of the following fields relating to residential design and building: architecture, landscape architecture, building design, interior design, urban planning, construction, construction management, engineering, affordable housing, housing policy, disability/elderly services, real estate development and marketing/communications. Entrants can participate as an individual, as well as in a team. There is no limit to the amount of entrants on a Team, but entrants are only allowed to participate on one team. The challenge is to design an affordable, functional, contextual, and LEED attainable house for a local family. Homes need to be $100,000 (including materials and construction costs), no greater than 950 square feet, and must be able to demonstrate the ability to achieve LEED for Homes platinum certification. One winner will be chosen and announced on February 1. That team will assist Community Development who will prepare construction documents,bid packages, and oversee construction administration services. Construction will begin during the Summer of 2011.
